The prickly pear seed oil
Is obtained directly through the first cold-pressing of the seeds foundwithin the edible fruit, the prickly pear (Opuntia ficus indica). The oil is extracted through a very long and laborious process. The production of one liter of prickly pear seed oil requires approximately 36 hours of manual labor, and around 1 million prickly pear seeds are needed (approximately 300 seeds for a 150g fruit). The seeds are separated from the pulp, then carefully washed, airdried under sunlight, and meticulously cold-pressed (around 450 kg of paste is needed to produce oneliter of prickly pear seed oil). Following this process, this cold-press extraction technique aims to preserve the nutrients andbenefits of the oil by sacrificing high yields in favor of superior quality. Indeed, heat breaks down the molecules responsiblefor its incredible properties. The prickly pear seeds are so hard that a very powerful press machine is required to extract theelixir without heating it. Prickly pear seed oil is extremely rare, and its extraction has a very low yield due to the small seeds containing only a minimal amount of oil, ranging from 3% to 6% of oil content. In fact, this oil requires between 800 kg and 1ton of prickly pear fruit and 40 kg of seeds to extract 1 liter of oil (34 oz)
